I am continually appalled at all that you and Jay (and thousands of others) are having to go through just to get back home. It’s simply unfair. No…it’s horseshit. With molasses.
If I was there, I would be your “meet them at the house” volunteer so that you and Jay could at least have time to focus on your jobs (that fund these bajillion contractors) and your family. I’d also be happy to be the sidecar to the squeaky wheel and sit in offices waiting for in-person answers with my backpack full of snacks and a “retired with plenty of time” smile so they would know I wasn’t leaving without an answer.
Wow. That list, and the 20-foot road requirement! I'm glad you found a way through some of the molasses at the end, and sorry there's so much of it. It is crazy that there are houses going up in the Palisades but none in Malibu!
I know! So crazy! I'd love to go down to the Malibu City equivalent for LA and see what they're doing differently. It's obviously something! One of the members of the group we were connected to by Haylynn said this: "What we REALLY need is a new “rebuild category” acknowledging that we are truly NOT new construction as our homes stood solidly for decades and to remove extensive geo requirements and allow prescriptive structural engineering calculations that are normal for homes rebuilding, this will reduce at least 8 months off the process." I think this would make a HUGE difference.
That sounds like a really good and logical solution. What I also don't understand is why it's so restrictive to rebuild in Malibu, and meanwhile Nesom's changes to the California Environmental Quality Act allow developers to build huge new apartment complexes that entirely bypass environmental regulations. It seems really backwards.
